How Do I Avoid a Claim on My Town of Southern Shores Bond?

North Carolina General Statute Sec. 6-5 states that the bond shall be payable to the Town of Southern Shore if the construction fails to meet all applicable statutes, ordinances, and building codes. The bond also covers the repair of public facilities that may be damaged during construction.

To avoid a bond claim, contractors must understand the current local and state building codes, and also dutifully perform work without causing damages to the street or local utilities, and if so, repair the damages or reimburse the city for repairs. There is no need to cramp the beach vibes so be sure to work amicably with the hiring party and the town. An agreement can always be reached with the Planning and Code Enforcement division of the Town of Southern Shores before a bond claim happens.

What Happens If I Get a Bond Claim?

Inform Jet right away if there is a claim filed against you. While claims from a municipality are more cut and dry than others from homeowners or other third parties, Jet will always investigate the claim to determine its validity and protect you against any invalid claims. Other Surety companies look at a bond claim for a low $5,000 bond amount and simply payout to avoid legal costs associated with processing claims. At Jet, we believe in you like we’re family and we will protect you from any and all unwarranted claims.

Should the claim be deemed valid, Jet must pay Town of South Shores up to the full limit of the bond. You are obligated to reimburse Jet for the claim payment. The bond is not like liability insurance, instead think of it as a letter of credit to the Town of South Shores from Jet, promising that you will faithfully perform construction and repair any damages the town may receive.
