Driving schools or companies training drivers of commercial vehicles must file a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Company and School Bond (otherwise known as a Third Party Company and School Business License Bond) as part of their licensing. The bond protects against monetary damages caused by the company or school’s fraudulent behavior or pays for a driver having to retest because the company or school fraudulently administered skills tests.
The bond purchased with Jet assures the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that the private CDL companies and schools will fulfill their obligations, protecting Nevada citizens from financial harm; if they fail to do so, there is financial recourse available.
With Jet, you can get the required Commercial Driver Training Company and School Bond as low as $35 a month or $350 a year. The cost depends on the bond limit and the applicant’s credit. The amount of the bond is based on the number of drivers that are tested by the company or school. The chart below shows what a preferred credit applicant would be quoted at different bond limits.
Drivers Tested | Bond Limit | Monthly | Annual |
---|---|---|---|
1-100 | $35,000 | $35 | $350 |
101-200 | $70,000 | $70 | $700 |
201-300 | $100,000 | $100 | $1,000 |
301 and up | $175,000 | $175 | $1,750 |
As a direct insurance company, Jet is able to cut out fees and commissions that are often a result of middlemen and brokers. Apply by clicking the button above!
Applying for your bond is quick through Jet’s simple application. All you have to do is add in the requested information including general business information and the social security number needed for a soft credit check. Once you have completed the application, it will be submitted for review with a Jet underwriter. Our team will review the application (and reach out if additional information is needed) before emailing you a quote. When you are ready, you can purchase the bond by clicking the button in the email, selecting your bond term, and fulfilling payment.
You can choose to leave the filing of the bond to Jet or file it yourself (maybe with a license application) when you are checking out. We will complete the bond form and send it directly to the DMV. If submitting the bond yourself, you must mail the original bond form to the appropriate address:
Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles
Commercial Driving License Office
4110 Donovan Way
North Las Vegas, NV 89030
Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles
Commercial Driving License Office
890 Trademark Dr
Reno, NV 89521
To keep the Third Party CDL Bond active, monthly payment plan subscribers just need to keep making payments. Those on annual or multi-year terms must renew their bond, so Jet will send you a notice that your bond expiration is approaching. If any information is needed, it will be asked of you at this time; otherwise, simply fill out the notice (whether by mail or online) to select and pay for your new term. If the bond limit has changed, it is important that you let Jet know so the bond can be updated to reflect the appropriate coverage.
If you need to cancel your bond, send an email to [email protected] to start the process. Our team will reach out to the Commercial Driving License Office, where the bond is kept active for another 30 days. Once that time is done and Jet is released from liability, we will review the unused portion of the bond term and premium for a refund. Monthly payments are not eligible for a refund and will cease after the cancellation has been processed.
All CDL training companies and schools are bound to follow Chapter 483 of the Nevada Administrative Code and the Nevada Revised Statutes as they pertain to third parties in the business of licensing commercial drivers. If the third party causes financial damage to any entity or person by violating the legislation mentioned above or otherwise engaging in fraudulent or negligent behavior, the injured party can file a claim on the bond to recover funds. Additionally, a driver who has to retake a skills test as a result of the third party company or school’s fraud can file a claim on the bond to be compensated.
Legislation for Third Party Commercial Driving License Schools or Companies:
If you receive a claim, Jet will work to defend you as best as possible. We will contest the claim by petitioning the DMV’s Director to hold a hearing. Keep in mind that the DMV also conducts investigations (announced or unannounced) that can be brought up as evidence of compliance. If the Director finds sufficient evidence in favor of the claim, compensation must be put forth by Jet up to the full bond limit. Since your actions brought on the claim filing, you are responsible for paying Jet in the amount that was paid out from the bond. If damages exceed the amount of the bond or are not specified in the language of the bond, the CDL third-party company or school is held liable for restitution.
Yes, a Nevada third-party company or school licensing commercial drivers must first be licensed as a driving school and obtain a Driving School Bond to be able to offer driver training. The Driving School Bond has a limit of $10,000 (and can be reduced after five years of compliant licensure) to protect against schools defrauding their students.
