The City of Tyler, Texas requires contractors of various trades to obtain a permit or license before construction may begin. To be eligible for licensure status, the Development Services Department may also require a surety bond of the applicant.
In this case, contractors that are in the business of laying concrete, erecting signs, or moving buildings within the “Rose City” will require a permit and Contractor Bond.

At Jet, we provide construction bonds as a way to financially ensure that the contractor will uphold the regulations of their permit and contractual obligations. The Concrete Contractor Bond, Sign Contractor Bond, and House Mover Bond essentially keep the contractor accountable for their actions. So if negligence, poor workmanship, or fraudulent actions occur, the damaged client (the City of Tyler or a local resident) can cover any financial harm they face by filing a claim on the contractor’s bond. Funds from the bond may be used as restitution and/or to cover the cost of hiring a new contractor to complete the construction project up to city standards.
Let’s use the Concrete Permit Bond as an example. The Concrete Bond is for contractors that are performing construction on public sidewalks, suburbs, gutters, driveways, and alleys. A condition of the permit is that once the job has been officially completed, the contractor is expected to perform maintenance to the job site for a period of two years afterward. Maintenance requests can include sealing cracks or ripping out concrete that has shown signs of damage/poor workmanship and pour fresh concrete properly. Such requests can be an inconvenience, but they are part of the job. Because of this, it is somewhat common for contractors to blow off maintenance requests. We strongly recommend against falling into this category. Not only is it a bad look on your business reputation but it can lead to a costly bond claim.
Permits are typically only good for one year with the Development Services Department. However, if your construction project goes beyond schedule, you will likely need to extend your permit and renew your bond.
