The City of South Padre Island is Texas’s one and only tropical paradise. The unique barrier island is known for its white-sand beaches, clear emerald waters, and vibrant marine life. Due to the City’s growing popularity (e.g. influx of new residents and tourism), active contractors are a necessity.
If you are one of the lucky few that performs construction on buildings and/or structures within the City, you will be required to obtain a building permit and a $10,000 Building Contractor Bond.
Jet Insurance Company provides the $10,000 Building Contractor Bond for the guaranteed price of $100 to South Padre Island permittees. Simply click the “Secure Your Bond” button that can be seen above to purchase the bond in minutes!
Bond Limit | Cost |
---|---|
$5,000 | $100 |
The Building Inspector may require a higher bond limit of you if it is determined that the standard $10,000 limit is an insufficient amount and cannot cover possible damages that may occur during the construction project.
The City of South Padre Island gives you two options when filing your bond, you can either file the signed and sealed Building Contractor Bond form and completed Building Permit Application with the Public Works Department at the mailing address listed below or you can email a copy to [email protected]. The choice is yours!

The Building Contractor Permit Bond is required by the local Public Works Department to act as a financial assurance that the hired contractor will follow all building code regulations and uphold the obligations of their permit. If the contractor displays negligence, poor workmanship, or an omission to contractual agreements, the surety bond may be used to cover any financial losses that have been experienced by the damaged party. Essentially, the main purpose of the surety bond is to hold the contractor accountable for their actions. So if you mess up, even by accident, it is your responsibility to work with the harmed client to fix the problem before licensure penalties and action on your bond ensues.
