General contractors, electricians, and mechanical contractors seeking registration in Port Aransas need to file a $5,000 Contractor Bond first. The bond keeps the City and its people safe from contractors whose business practices muddy up the waters.
Your Port Aransas Bond costs $10 a month when you choose Jet’s monthly installment plan; for a full year of coverage, you’ll pay just $100.
Bond Term | Cost |
---|---|
Monthly | $10 |
1 Year | $100 |
2 Years | $175 |
3 Years | $250 |
After your payment is processed, Jet will get your bond form ready and mail it over to you. You must submit the original Contractor Bond with the Contractor Application, applicable state licenses, and a valid state-issued photo ID at the following address:
City of Port Aransas
ATTN: Building
710 W Avenue A
Port Aransas, TX 78373
The bond must be kept active during the contractor registration term: January 1st to December 31st of each calendar year.
Although Port Aransas boasts a taste of island living, you, as a contractor, can’t just coast through business without fulfilling your contractual obligations. You will need to follow the Building Regulations found in Chapter 5 of the Port Aransas Code of Ordinances to make sure that your operations are in compliance and will not cause financial damage to your customers, whether that be citizens of Port Aransas or the City itself. All contractors are bound to this obligation, but only general contractors, electrical contractors, and mechanical contractors are required to carry the $5,000 Contractor Bond.
If you fail to comply with the regulations, you are at risk of receiving a bond claim. The injured party will file a complaint, which leads into an investigation into the accusation. If the complaint is valid and is covered by the terms of the bond (like abandoning a job site), Jet would have to pay out the claim. However, you are not off the hook from your responsibilities; you will still need to restore the bond in the amount that was paid out.
The City of Port Aransas may also require a $10,000 Landscaping Bond for temporary/permanent certificate of occupancy permits when plant installation cannot be completed at the time of occupancy.
