According to the Olmos Park Building Department, all general contractors require a permit and the Building Permit Bond before any kind of construction may begin. This requirement does not include homeowners that are performing construction on their own property. However, if the home is a rental or leased property, the $5,000 General Contractor Bond will be required of the property owner.
The main purpose of the General Contractor Bond is to protect the customer from any financial losses if the contractor commits negligence, poor workmanship, regulation violations, or a breach of contract.
An additional requirement of a building permit is that the contractor must perform maintenance on the construction site for a period of six months following the completion of the project. If the contractor performs a home restoration construction project and the paint on the outside of the home begins to chip off only a few months after being completed, the contractor will be expected to go back and repaint properly. Failure to do repairs even as small as this can lead to the customer filing a claim on the Olmos Park General Contractor Bond. Funds from the bond may be used to cover any financial losses incurred by the damaged party and may cover the cost of hiring a new contractor to complete the job up to the standards of the original contract.
The General Contractor Bond is to remain active for one year with the Olmos Park Building Department. If you need to renew your bond with Jet, simply give our team a call at 855-296-2663 and we can help you out with the renewal process immediately.
