The Construction Bond, also known as the General Contractor Bond, is issued for 1-year terms and will need to be renewed along with your Contractor License. It is conditioned on your ability to complete construction or repair of various buildings or structures according to your contracts and to maintain such work for up to five (5) years after completion. 

The Housemoving Bond is active until December 31st; as long as you are continuing with your Residential House Moving Permit, you will need to have an active bond and will need to keep up with renewals. This bond is meant to be used as a way for the City to be compensated when you cause damage to the streets or other public roadways used during the moving of a house or structure. 

The Sidewalks, Curbs, Gutters, and Driveway Approaches Bond stays active for the length of the permit. On top of that, you are responsible for maintaining that work for a period of five (5) years after the work is completed. So, you can’t leave any cracks marinating in the concrete; as long as it is within the maintenance period, you must fix it.

Failure to keep your obligations for either bond or follow the Mesquite Code of Ordinances will result in a bond claim. Although a bond claim would provide compensation to the injured party, it leaves a bad taste for everyone involved. It delays the repairs or construction that was initially promised, brings all parties into a legal battle, and ultimately, you will still pay the amount of the claim to restore the bond. All in all, you should do everything in your power to perform your duties and avoid this whole situation.
