The City of Lockhart must receive a Contractor License Bond before issuing a license to an applicant. The bond can range from $1,000 to $10,000, based on the estimated cost of a permit, and prevents the City and its citizens from getting ripped off by contractors who decided to toss their warranty or the construction standards into the grill.

The original bond will need to be filed with additional licensing paperwork must be submitted to:
City of Lockhart
Building Inspections Department
PO Box 239
Lockhart, TX 78644
For initial licensing, the following documents must be submitted for a complete application.
For license renewals, the only things that are required are: a completed application, current bond, and renewal license fee (Class A=$100, Class B=$50, Class C=$25).
Contractors are divided into three classes based on the type of work being done. Class A has the most capability for performing construction work on buildings, structures, or utilities, with Class B and C increasing in restrictions for work.
Regardless of class, you will need to comply with the Lockhart Construction Standards and the Lockhart Building Regulations. If you cannot or choose not to follow these regulations, leading to poor work performance or using defective materials, a claim can be filed against the Contractor Bond. Keep in mind that if a claim is paid out, you will still be required to pay it back to Jet. Unlike insurance, surety bonds are for the benefit of the public paid by a neutral third party and the contractor remains liable for damages.
