VIEW YOUR BOND PRICE

According to the Houston Public Works Department, the following permit bonds are required of contractors.

As you can see, some of these bonds require a custom or variable limit. Such bond amounts are usually based on your permit type and should be equal in value to the estimated cost of the construction project. The bond limit in most cases will be determined by the Public Works Department.

At Jet, prices for surety bonds are typically a small percentage of the bond limit and are either based on a soft credit check of the applicant or are guaranteed at a specific rate.

For example, Houston contractors may purchase the $2,000 Right-of-Way Bond for the guaranteed price of $100 for a one-year bond term. While contractors that are seeking a $10,000 House Mover Bond will need to go through a soft credit check to see if they qualify for the starting rate of $200 for a one-year bond term.

The main purpose of these bonds is to financially ensure that the contractor will follow the regulations of their permit, as well as fulfill all contractual obligations they may have entered into with the City of Houston or its residents. If the contractor commits a regulation violation or breach of contract, the damaged party may pursue a claim on the contractor’s bond to cover any losses that they have incurred. Each bond essentially acts as a financial guarantee that protects the consumer from economic harm.

Contractors are expected to uphold all requirements that apply to their permit; these regulations can be found in the Houston, Texas Municode. The Jet team highly recommends you review this information before embarking on your permit project. It will help you avoid permit penalties and bond claims.
