Haltom, Texas House Mover and Right-of-Way Bond

If you are a contractor that works within the City of Haltom, Texas, you may be required to obtain a permit and a surety bond before any construction can be performed. These requirements will depend on the type of licensure and project being proposed.

To name a few examples, a contractor that is moving a house, building, or any kind of structure from one place to another within city limits will require the proper permit and a $1,000 House Mover Bond.

If you are a contractor that is going to perform any type of construction within a public right-of-way area (i.e. street, highway, sidewalk, or alleyway), you will need a permit and a $5,000 Right-of-Way Bond as well. This surety bond is formally referred to as a Contractors Bond for work in Public Streets, Alleys, and Thoroughfares.

As for where to find permit applications, take a look at the city’s Permits webpage. Your completed licensure paperwork should be sent to the Public Works Department address listed above as well.

If you are proposing a right-of-way project and are applying for a Utility Construction Permit, it is important to note that no digging, boring, or construction of any kind may begin until you have contacted and been approved by the Public Works Dispatcher (817-834-9036) 48 hours prior to the start of such construction.

The main purpose of both the House Mover Bond and the Right-of-Way Bond is to protect the City of Haltom and its citizens from financial damages if a contractor commits a license/permit violation or breach of contract. For example, if a contractor walks off a construction job without completing it and does not return the funds that were already invested into the project, the customer may file a claim on the contractor’s bond to cover the financial losses they have incurred.

As for the regulations of each surety bond, contractors can find such information in the Haltom, Texas Municode. The Jet team has also listed some of the more important requirements for each bond in the following excerpts.

If you are a contractor that is moving a house, building or any other kind of large structure, you will be expected to of course follow the regulations of your permit, but you must also complete the project within a 90-day period. The area that the structure was removed from should be cleaned up as well. In cases where damages to public or private property are caused during the move, the contractor must restore the property to its original condition. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements can result in any financially harmed party taking action on the contractor’s House Mover Bond.

Regarding the Right-of-Way Bond, the permitted contractor must perform the excavation, repairs, or any other kind of construction within the public right-of-way area up to the standards of the permit, as well as leave the property in its original or a better condition once the project has been completed. The contractor will also be responsible for performing maintenance on the public sidewalk, street, alleyway, thoroughfare area, etc. for a period of two years after construction has officially finished. Similar to the House Mover Bond, an omission of these obligations may lead to a claim on your Right-of-Way Bond.

The Jet team has created a quick and easy renewal process for all of our surety bonds if you are needing to extend the bond past a one-year period.
