Contractors who are looking to perform construction in a right-of-way area within the City of Edinburg, Texas must apply for a permit with the local Department of Public Works. To be eligible for an approved permit a Right-of-Way Bond is required of the contractor.
According to the Edinburg Department of Public Works, the required limit for the Right-of-Way Bond will depend on the preference of the contractor. If you want to have an individual bond for each project that you are hired for, the amount will need to be a minimum of $10,000 or 1 ½ times the estimated cost of the job (whichever amount is greater). However, if you would prefer to have one bond that covers whatever permit projects that come up for your business in the next year (blanket coverage), you are required to have a $75,000 bond limit.
At Jet, Right-of-Way Bond limits that start at $10,000 may be purchased for the guaranteed price of $100 annually. As for custom limits that are over $25,000, Jet’s prices will be based on a soft credit check of the applicant. For further bond limits and price examples, take a look at Jet’s chart below.

---|---|
$10,000 | $100 |

According to the Edinburg Department of Public Works, a right-of-way permit will be needed for any of the following types of construction projects:
Contractors who perform right-of-way work are expected to follow all regulations pursuant to Chapter 98, Section 98.15 of the Edinburg, Texas Municode. Failure to comply may include repercussions such as license penalties and/or a bond claim.
The main purpose of the Right-of-Way Bond is to ensure that the contractor will complete the construction project up to permit regulation standards, as well as leave the job site in its original condition once completion has occurred. If the permittee fails to fulfill these contractual obligations, the Department of Public Works, or any other damaged Edinburg party, may file a claim on the contractor’s bond to cover any financial losses that have occurred.
Along with the Right-of-Way Bond, right-of-way construction permits typically remain active for one year. If your project goes beyond this timeline, it will be necessary to renew your permit and surety bond. No need to worry though, Jet has created a quick and easy renewal process.
Regardless of your project status, the Jet team will send you a renewal invoice for your bond prior to its official expiration date via mail and email. If you are interested in renewing, simply complete the standard payment due and your bond will remain in good standing with the City of Edinburg for another year.
