If you are working as a contractor in the City of Bedford, Texas, you may be required to provide the local Building Inspections Division with a proper permit and surety bond. Such requirements will be dependent on what kind of construction project you are pursuing.
Contractors that are remodeling, repairing, moving, erecting, and/or demolishing a building or structure must obtain an approved Building Permit and a $1,000 Building Contractor Bond.
If you are conducting an excavation construction project that includes laying down gutters, curbs, approaches, and/or sidewalks in a public right-of-way area, you will need an approved Public Works Permit and a $2,500 Cement Sidewalk and Approach Bond. Additionally, a Maintenance Bond in a custom amount will also be mandated if the permitted job includes any water or sanitary improvements to the street’s drainage system.
At Jet, surety bond prices are typically a small percentage of the bond limit and are based on a soft credit check of the applicant. However, both the Building Contractor Bond and the Cement Sidewalk and Approach Bond are instant-issue bonds, meaning you won’t be required to go through a credit check and will simply pay the guaranteed price that is listed in the chart below.
Bond Limit & Name | Cost |
---|---|
$1,000 Building Contractor Bond | $100 |
$2,500 Cement Sidewalk and Approach Bond | $100 |
As for contractors that are required to also acquire the Maintenance Bond, take a look at the chart below for various custom bond limits and Jet’s rates (prices are instant issue for limits up to $20k).
Bond Limit | Cost |
---|---|
Up to $10,000 | $100 |
$20,000 | $200 |
$50,000 | $500 |
If you are unsure what bond limit is right for you, be sure to check with the Bedford Building Inspections Division. According to the Division, your bond limit should be equal in value to the total cost of the construction contract.
Regarding the filing of your bond, the original signed and sealed form, along with your completed permit application must be submitted to the Bedford Building Inspections Division at the following mailing address:

The City of Bedford, Texas requires contractor surety bonds for the purpose of ensuring that permit regulations will be followed and that the public, as well as the City themselves, will be financially protected if violations are committed by the permittee and/or their employees. In cases where a transgression is committed and not resolved, the damaged party (i.e. the Building Inspections Division or a person of the public) may file a claim on the contractor’s bond to cover any financial losses incurred. For example, the Public Works Permit asks that contractors maintain the work they performed on the right-of-way area for a period of two years following the project’s official completion date. If you fail to fulfill this obligation, the Division may file a claim on your Cement Sidewalk and Approach Bond to cover the cost of hiring a new contractor to complete the required maintenance of the area.
As for renewing your bond, the Jet team has created a quick and easy process for such. We will send you a renewal invoice prior to the official expiration date of your bond via mail and email. All you need to do is complete the standard payment due and your surety bond will be all set with the City of Bedford for another term!
