Contractors working in the City of Amarillo, Texas are required by the Planning and Development Services Department to be registered with the local Building Official. Depending on your license type, you may also be required to obtain a Contractor License Bond.
As for contractors that plan to conduct construction in a public right-of-way area, a permit application must be filed with the City Engineer. If approved, a $10,000 Service Line Bond is needed as well.
At Jet, the cost of an Amarillo, Texas surety bond is a small fraction of the bond limit and is based on a soft credit check of the applicant.
If you are seeking a Contractor License/Permit Bond, your bond limit will depend on the type of license you are applying for with the Amarillo Planning and Development Service Department.
The Jet team has created a chart (see below) that details the various contractor license types, the required bond limits, and our preferred credit tier prices for monthly and annual terms. For example, rates for a $10,000 bond amount start at just $10 a month or $100 for a one-year term.

The main purpose of the Contractor License Bond and the Service Line Permit Bond is to financially protect the City of Amarillo and its citizens from regulation violations and/or failures that are committed by the hired contractor. For example, a service line permit requires the contractor to restore the right-of-way area to its original condition once the project has been completed. If the contractor fails to fulfill this obligation, the Amarillo Planning and Development Services Department or any other damaged party may file a claim on the contractor’s surety bond to cover the costs of any financial losses they incur due to the permit transgression.
For further details on regulations to be followed for your permit and/or license type, take a look at the City of Amarillo, Texas Code of Ordinances.
