Oregon requires certain home inspectors to be licensed with the Construction Contractors Board and to be licensed they must have a Home Inspector License Surety Bond. Jet Insurance Company provides this bond online for purchase. Take a minute to find out your quote and purchase it now!
Not all home inspectors need to be certified with the CCB, only those that inspect structural components. Residential contractors can obtain this certification to work as inspectors or an inspector can solely do inspections as a Home Inspector Service Contractor.
Stand alone inspectors can avoid licensing tests and have reduced bond and insurance requirements. The home inspector bond has just a $10,000 surety bond limit as opposed to $15,000 for specialty contractors or $20,000 for general contractors.
The CCB requires this bond as a financial safeguard for the benefit of the public, not the home inspector. Should the home inspector inflict damages to their customer or other interested parties through violations of code, negligence or fraud, then Jet will make payment to the damaged party (that is if the home inspector fails to do so first).
The bond is meant to be a financial safety net for the public and works like a loan for the home inspector if ever needed. The inspector will need to indemnify (payback the bond) if a bond claim payment is made.
With Jet the lowest price for the bond is $8 a month! You can also receive a discounted rate by purchasing annual terms: 1 year is $175 or 2 years is $131. The rates are based on the personal credit of the inspector.
Bond Term | Cost |
---|---|
Monthly | $8 |
1 Year | $75 |
2 Years | $131 |
The rates above are for the $10,000 Home Inspector bond also apply to the $15,000 Residential Specialty Contractor bond requirement. For general contractors with the $20,000 bond limit the prices start at $10 monthly or $100 annually. You can read more and apply for the residential specialty or general bond on our Oregon Contractor Bond Page.
Applicants can verify their price over the phone by calling (503) 468-3133 or online by clicking the ‘quote’ button above. Purchase can be made immediately and a copy of the bond will be available right then and there.
