In order for contractors to work within the City of Springfield, Ohio, they are required to file a Contractor Bond. A $10,000 Contractor Registration Bond must be held by contractors working on HVAC, fire detection/suppression, electrical, gas piping installation, and/or general construction jobs. In an ideal world, a Contractor Bond would be a regulatory nuisance that never needs to be used. In reality the Contractor Bond is relied upon to provide restitution when a contractor fails to follow the obligations in the Springfield Code of Ordinances and license/permit guidelines. If you do not complete the job as indicated or do not fulfill the other commitments under the bond (such as making necessary repairs or maintenance on your work after it is finished), a claim can be filed on the bond to bring the construction or project into compliance.
Typically, the City will attempt to mitigate complaints to find a resolution between the contractor and the project owner. Contractors can avoid escalating issues by abiding by the court or regulators orders.
If you receive a claim notify Jet immediately. Jet will be obligated to pay out the injured party, but has and obligation to fight the claim for the contractor's benefit. Yet if the claim is valid, that doesn’t mean you are off the hook. It still remain the contractor's fault that caused the claim and they are liable for paying Jet back. This is known as indemnification, and it is the same across all surety companies and surety bond agreements.
