According to the Portage County, the following contractor classifications must be licensed and bonded with the Building Department:
General Contractor
Hydronics
Electrical
Mechanical
Roofing
Low Voltage
Fire Alarm
Sprinkler

The Contractor License Bond is required to ensure the Building Department that the contractor will perform all construction up to the standards of the Ohio Building Codes, and any other Portage County regulations regarding their license. If the contractor commits a violation that leads to financial losses for the county or a person of the public, the surety bond may act as a financial guarantee for the harmed party. For example, if the Department hires a contractor for a project and the contractor fails to complete the job without probable cause, the Department may file a claim on the contractor’s bond to cover the costs of hiring a new contractor to finish the construction job up to code.
As for renewing your Contractor Bond, the Jet team will send you a renewal invoice prior to your bond term expiration date by mail and email. To renew, complete the standard payment due, and your surety bond will remain active with Portage County for another term.
