General contractors and subcontractors who work in the neighboring City of Mentor-on-the-Lake will need to be registered with the City’s Zoning Department and a $10,000 Contractor Registration Bond is also required. Both the City of Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake require contractors and subcontractors who perform general construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, right-of-way work, sprinkler installations, and/or fire suppression work to be registered and bonded with the appropriate department. The purpose of the Contractor Registration Bond is to provide and assurance that the contractor will comply with the obligations of their license, as well as the construction standards of their field. The surety bond also acts as a financial guarantee for the City and any harmed party should the contractor commit a license violation that causes fiscal damages.
The City and any other person financially harmed by the contractor’s actions may file a claim on the bond. The action on the bond must commence within two years of the date of the incident.
Your contractor license expires on December 31st each year. To be approved for a renewal, your Contractor Registration Bond must be currently active with the Department.
