According to Chapter 1022 of the City of Kirtland, Ohio Ordinances, contractors who are performing excavations along or across the limits of any public street, roadway, alley, sidewalk, or any other public grounds in Kirtland must obtain a surety bond that is approved by the Zoning Department. The Permit Bond ensures that the contractor will abide by the obligations of their permit, as well as uphold construction standards. If the contractor commits a violation or refuses to resolve any damages caused, the bond will act as a financial guarantee for the damaged party. 

It is important to note that the contractor is expected to maintain the public right-of-way area for a one-year period after the permitted project has been completed. The Permit Bond must remain active during this required timeline.
