Contractors are expected to comply with the Independence Code of Ordinances under their registration with the City. Following these rules would prevent shoddy or unsafe construction and having a customer or even the City itself bear the financial burden of bringing the project to the standards specified in the original contract. If this does occur, the injured party can file a claim against the bond to be reimbursed for the cost of fulfilling your duties.

Once purchased, your bond will stay active for the calendar year, expiring on December 31st. To maintain coverage, a continuation certificate or a new bond must be submitted to the City. 

Additionally, contractors must be registered for each type of work that they perform: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, hydronics, refrigeration, fire alarm, and fire protection (sprinkler). A separate bond is required for each registration

I, the undersigned, hereby apply for a Dishonesty Bond also known as a Business Service Bond or Janitorial Service Bond (“bond”) to the Surety Company (“SURETY”) through Jet Insurance Company (“JET”), with whom I hereby grant the authority to act on my behalf with respect to the bond and assign as my Broker of Record, and declare that the statements herein are true and correct.
