Individuals or companies wishing to haul a large load on any paved or unpaved roads within Guernsey County, Ohio must obtain a permit to do so from the Engineering Department. To be approved for a permit, the company or subcontractor is required to file a Temporary Hauling Permit Bond with the Department.
According to the Guernsey Engineering Department, the Temporary Hauling Bond amount will depend on the route of the permittee. A $20,000 bond limit is needed if the driver is taking only unpaved roads, and a $50,000 bond amount is required if any paved roads are taken.
At Jet, the cost of the Temporary Hauling Permit Bond is a small percentage of the bond amount and is based on a soft credit check of the driver. For example, applicants seeking a $20,000 bond limit can pay as low as $125 annually. Take a look at the chart below for our preferred tier rates at the required bond amounts.
Road Type | Bond Limit | Cost |
---|---|---|
Paved Roads | $50,000 | $375 |
Unpaved Roads | $20,000 | $125 |
The original signed and sealed Temporary Hauling Bond, along with your permit application, must be submitted to the County Engineer at the following mailing address:
Guernsey County
Engineering Department
62782 Bennett Ave.
Cambridge, OH 43725
You can find the Hauling Unpaved/Paved Permit application on the Department’s “Forms” webpage.
Under the regulations of the temporary hauling permit, the company or subcontractor is required to fully restore the permitted roadways to their former condition if any damages or changes in condition occur on their route. If the permittee refuses to uphold these obligations, the Guernsey County Engineer may use the Temporary Hauling Permit Bond as restitution to cover the cost of fixing the damages caused by the driver.
