Aurora Contractor's Performance Bond

The City of Aurora, Ohio requires contractors who plan to perform work within the city limits to be registered with the Planning, Zoning, and Building Division. To become registered, a $10,000 Contractor Bond must be filed with the Division.

The City of Aurora's Planning, Zoning, and Building Division requires the Contractor Bond to ensure that the registered contractor will perform all permitted building or other structural work up to code and leave the area clean and free of any violations once the job is completed.

If any violations are found that have caused financial damages to the city or the public, the surety bond will act as restitution for losses incurred. The City of Aurora will work to mediate any complaints and valid violations to come to a reasonable solution. The surety bond is there in case mediation fails or the contractor refuses to make proper restitution.

Maintaining An Active Bond

The bond must be in place for the duration the contractor is performing work in Aurora. Each year on December 31st the bond will expire and the surety bond must be renewed and filed with the City of Aurora. Jet will send notices prior to December, giving contractors plenty of time to to renew if they purchase an annual bond.

For contractors paying monthly, so long as the monthly payments are made, they will receive receipt of the bond's renewal. Jet will notify the City of the bond's renewal. Simple.

In Ohio we cannot charge less than $100 for the surety bond for an annual term, unless the monthly option is chosen. So if you are new and registering to the City it will cost $100 even if you only need the bond for a couple of months. The monthly term can circumvent this additional cost. As December approaches, you have the option to switch to the annual or multi-year term and save some extra bucks.
