A $10,000 Wage and Welfare Bond is required for all individuals and companies that choose to employ local union members of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), District Council 6 of Ohio.
Jet provides the Ohio Painter and Allied Trade Wage and Welfare Bond as an assurance to local unions of the IUPAT District Council 6 and their members that all wage and welfare obligations set in the Collective Bargaining Agreement will be upheld. The surety bond is a fiscal guarantee that laborers are paid and withheld union contributions are submitted properly.
At Jet Insurance Company, rates for the $10,000 Ohio Wage and Welfare Bond start as low as $250 annually. The price you pay is based on a small percentage of your bond limit and personal credit of the hiring contractor.

The Ohio Wage and Welfare District Council 6 Local Unions Bond is continuous, and therefore will need to be renewed upon the bond term expiration date. Of course, this only applies if you have decided to continue employing union members for an additional year.
Jet will send you a renewal invoice via email and mail far in advance of your bond’s expiration date. As long as you make payment, your bond will remain active for another term and you can continue running your business smoothly.
If you ever need to cancel your bond, Jet allows this at any time. Simply send a written cancellation request to us at [email protected] and we will get started with the process right away. The IUPAT, District Council 6 requires bond termination notices to be sent by certified mail to the office of the local union where the bond was originally filed. Liability of the bond will be released by the union within 30 days once Jet sends them the cancellation notice.
Regarding refunds, your bond will be reviewed for any unused premium once cancellation is requested, and if any is available, a reimbursement will be sent to you as soon as the bond has been officially released.
Wage and Welfare bonds that are specific to a single project that do not extend past one year do not need to be renewed, but they cannot be cancelled during that first term either.
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Ohio District Council 6 works hard to protect its members, which is why the Wage and Welfare Bond is required. According to the IUPAT Constitution, employers of its local union members are expected to meet all contractual terms and conditions of the agreed upon Collective Bargaining Agreement. Such obligations include the prompt and full payment of all earned wages, fringe benefits, union dues, and check-off funds, as well as payment for possible liquidated damages, interest, court costs, and attorney fees. Failure to do so may lead to civil action and a bond claim. Making certain that you meet all contractual and payment obligations is the best way to avoid a bond claim.
If a claim is filed on your Wage and Welfare District Council 6 Local Unions Bond, immediately contact Jet with all available information and documentation. The Jet team will need these details for our own review and investigation of the accused breach of contract.
Should the claim be valid, Jet is obligated per the bond form to make payment up to the $10,000 bond limit (the claim payout will never exceed the bond amount). You are ultimately held responsible for reimbursing Jet for the paid out claim as it was caused by your failure to properly pay your employees. Failure to refund Jet will lead to future difficulties in obtaining Wage and Welfare Bonds from other surety providers, which are commonly required by local unions in the State of Ohio.
