Jet's direct distribution model provides payment options that work for everyone through convenient monthly payments or discounted annual and multi-year rates.
For the $50,000 Auto Dealer Bond, Jet’s rates are as low as $250 for a one-year term or $25 monthly.
The cost is determined by the bond limit, years of experience, and personal credit. Higher bond limits correlate with more coverage, hence the higher rates. The chart below shows starting rates for all dealer bond types required in Montana.
Bond Type | Bond Limit | Monthly | 1 Year | 2 Years |
---|---|---|---|---|
New, Used, Wholesale, Auction, Broker Dealer | $50,000 | $25 | $250 | $438 |
Motorcycle or Quadricycle Dealer | $15,000 | $10 | $100 | $175 |
Boats, Snowmobiles, Off-Highway Vehicle Dealers | $5,000 | $10 | $100 | $175 |
It’s not just Montana—all 50 states require dealer bonds in some capacity. The Montana Motor Vehicle Division is charged with protecting the public from malicious or irresponsible dealers, by enforcing upon dealers the laws within Montana Code Annotated, Title 61, Chapter 4, Part 1.
The Motor Vehicle Division utilizes a third-party surety company (Jet) to provide the bond which guarantees funds in the event of financial harm to the public. Bond payouts for claims are often the last straw after a dealer has failed to address the issue and the person or entity harmed has obtained a judgment from the court.
False advertising and failing to pay taxes and fees are just two reasons a claim could be filed on a dealer bond.
Once you submit your information, select your preferred term, and pay for the bond, the bond form must be sent to the Motor Vehicle Division.
Jet will mail you the bond for filing at the following address:
Montana Department of Justice, Vehicle Services Bureau
P.O. Box 201431
Helena, MT 59620
If you need the bond in a hurry, there is an overnight mailing option when paying for the bond.
