Wholesalers, distributors, and exporters of cigarettes and tobacco products in Florida will need to file a Surety Bond as licensing requirement with the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. The bond is used to guarantee the payment of taxes when a licensee fails to submit due payment to the Division.
A Tobacco Tax Bond must be held by those who hold one of the following license types:
By purchasing your Tobacco Tax Bond with Jet, you will provide peace of mind to the Division that you will follow the obligations spelled out in the Cigarette Law and Tobacco Products Law.
You can purchase your Tobacco Tax Bond for as little as $100 a year or $10 a month with Jet’s unique month-to-month plan. The bond rates for cigarette distributing agents, exporters, stamping distributors, and tax-paid distributors are subject to a credit check, so the actual cost of the bond will vary. See starting prices for a Florida Tobacco Tax Bond in the chart below.
Bond Term | Annual | Monthly |
---|---|---|
$1,000 | $100 | $10 |
$10,000 | $100 | $10 |
$15,000 | $150 | $15 |
$20,000 | $200 | $20 |
Cigarette distributors and exporters need a Tobacco Tax Bond in an amount that will cover a missed payment: 110% of the estimated tax liability for a 30-day period. The bond cannot be less than $2,000 (with the exception of tobacco products distributors whose bond is set at $1,000).
Applying with Jet only takes a few minutes. All you need to do is submit the information that is needed for the bond form, like general licensing information. Since a credit check is required for providing a quote (for all license types except for a tobacco products distributor), you will need to provide a social security number. This is just a soft credit check and your credit score will not be affected.
Once your application is complete, you will receive an automatically-approved quote for bonds with a limit under $15,000. You will be able to purchase this quote instantly and move on to filing your Tobacco Tax Bond.
If the bond limit is over $15,000, additional considerations are required before a quote can be approved. Your application will be submitted for review and a Jet team member will reach out to you for financial statements (and any other necessary underwriting criteria). When your quote is ready, you will receive an email with a link to purchase your bond.
To file your Tobacco Tax Bond, you will need to mail in or bring in the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. After your payment has been processed, Jet sends you an email with a digital copy of your bond and a receipt of purchase. The original copy of the bond is mailed to you to submit to your local auditing district office from the list below:
