Sarasota County oversees the various license and permit projects completed within the county. Before such work may be executed, a surety bond may be required.
For instance, either a $5,000 Installing/Repairing Septic Systems Bond, $5,000 Manufacturing Septic Tanks Bond, or $10,000 Septic Pumping/Cleaning Bond might be required by the Sarasota County Health Department before a business may perform under the applicable license.
In addition, contractors making improvements or doing construction in public right-of-way areas may need a $15,000 Right-of-Way Use Bond and/or a Right-of-Way Excavation or Fill Bond by the local Planning and Development Services office.
Further details on which surety bond may apply to your license or permit project may be found below.
Most of the surety bonds listed above have standard limits (e.g. $5k to $15k). However, you might notice that the Right-of-Way Excavation or Fill Bond has a variable bond limit. This means the bond amount is determined by the Sarasota Planning and Development Services office and is typically based on the total cost of the permit project to be conducted.
At Jet, you may purchase up to a $10,000 License/Permit Bond for the guaranteed price of $100 for a one-year bond term. If you are seeking a higher bond limit (i.e. over $25k), a soft credit check may be needed to receive an approved rate. Higher bond limits premium rates will vary based on the financial strength of the applicant. To get started with your purchase, simply select the “Apply for Your Bond” button!
Bond Limit | Cost |
---|---|
Up to $10,000 | $100 |
$25,000 | $125 |

The Installing/Repairing Septic Systems Bond, Manufacturing Septic Tanks Bond, and Septic Pumping/Cleaning Bond act as a financial assurance to the Sarasota County Health Department that applicable regulations will be followed by the licensee. If a violation is committed that results in health hazards/damages to the County or its residents, a claim may be pursued against the licensee’s bond. Funds are to cover the financial losses incurred by the claimant, as well as the harmed party’s attorney fees. These bonds expire on December 31st of each year. More details on renewing or cancelling your bond can be found below.
As for the Right-of-Way Use Bond and the Right-of-Way Excavation or Fill Bond, a contractor is obligated to complete all permit obligations, as well as not restore the public area to its original or a better condition once the work has been executed. Either right-of-way bond may be used to cover any failure on the contractor’s part to complete work, in agreement with Section 124-48 of the Sarasota County Ordinances. Each bond is a permit requirement used to guarantee that funds are available to repair damage or finish the job should the construction site not be completed up to county standards.
The bond shall remain in effect for the duration of the project. It cannot be cancelled until the Sarasota County Planning and Development Services office deems the work completed and releases the bond. If an extension on the project is needed and additional bond coverage is required, you may renew your bond.
