Polk County, Florida Contractor Registration Bond

If you are a contractor working in Polk County, registration with the county’s Office of Planning and Development, Building Division is required before any work may begin. To be eligible for such licensure, a $5,000 Contractor Bond is needed. This, of course, is after becoming licensed with the State of Florida first.

SECURE YOUR BOND

Polk County is one of the largest counties in the State of Florida. Due to its ever-growing population, various construction projects are in abundance within the local area, and contractors are always needed. The surety bond provides a level of financial protection to the people of Polk County by involving a third-party financier (Jet Insurance Company) to promise payment should a contractor fail to uphold the obligations.

At Jet, contractors may purchase the $5,000 Contractor Registration Bond for the guaranteed price of $100 for a one-year bond term or a convenient $10 a month. All you need to do is select the “Secure Your Bond” button above to get started with your purchase!

Jet also offers multi-year bond terms. Take a look at the price chart below for further details.

The Jet team can file your bond form for you, however, the option to take care of the filing process yourself is also available. Either option may be selected at check out.

The original signed and sealed Contractor Bond, along with your completed County Registration Application, must be submitted to the Polk County Office of Planning and Development, Building Division at the following mailing address:

Building Division
330 W. Church St.
Bartow, FL 33830

It is important to note that you will still need to obtain a permit before a specialty construction project begins (i.e. building, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, swimming pools, etc.). Permit applications and any other required documents can be found on the county’s Forms webpage.

Contractors that operate within the county must follow all applicable registration and permit regulations pursuant to Chapter 5 of the Polk County, FL Municode, and are responsible for fulfilling all maintenance or repair requests for one year following the completion of a project. This last part is typically included in the contractor’s warranty agreement and is very important to uphold.

If a violation is committed such as poor workmanship, the use of defective materials, abandonment of the job, or a breach of contract, the damaged party may file an official complaint with the Board of County Commissioners. Before a mandatory hearing is held, the contractor will be given a chance to resolve the problem. The county provides 48 hours from the time an investigator or county gives the notice to fix the issue. Hopefully, the contractor is well aware of the proceedings as two days is not much time.

Should the corrective action not be done in time or if the contractor simply does not show up, the Board will file a claim on the Contractor Registration Bond on behalf of the claimant and further penalties will be pursued.
