Prequalified fabricators of small painted structures need to file a Painted Galvanized Steel and Aluminum Structures Warranty Bond with the Florida Department of Transportation. The bond protects against coating system color retention and adhesion warranty failure.
This bond is one of the Requirements to be on the List of Prequalified Fabricators of Painted Galvanized Steel and Aluminum Products with the Florida Department of Transportation.
The cost of the bond will be just a small fraction of the required limit. For example, if you are seeking a $50,000 limit, prices start at $50 a month or $500 for a one-year bond term. Rates are subject to a credit check and supplementary financial information and will need to be approved by a Jet underwriter.
Once you click the “Quote” button, you’ll be able to add basic information to start your application. Once complete, the application will be submitted, at which point, one of Jet’s underwriters will reach out to you for financial statements and other information needed to get you a quote. Once the quote is ready, an email will be sent to you, containing the quote and a link to purchase.
The Painted Galvanized Steel and Aluminum Structures Warranty Bond has a calculation to determine the required bond limit. The products mentioned below refer to the number sold for use on Department contracts during the previous bond cycle:
$2,500 x ( # of painted galvanized steel mast arm assemblies)
+ $3,500 x (# of painted galvanized steel monotube assemblies)
+ $200 x (# of painted galvanized steel highway light poles and painted aluminum poles, pedestals, and posts)
+ $500 x (# of painted aluminum conventional light poles and painted aluminum poles, pedestals, and posts)
This calculation must fall within the minimum/maximum amounts indicated below:
Minimum
Maximum
Renewal terms have a limit that is calculated by taking last year’s bond limit, plus the current year’s calculated bond limit, minus the number of products that are out of the 5-year warranty period.
After your payment has been received, Jet will prepare the Painted Galvanized Steel and Aluminum Structures Warranty Bond form and mail it over to you. You will need to sign the bond with a witness present and mail it in to the following address:
Florida Department of Transportation
605 Suwannee Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0450
Once your bond is on file, it will be held until June 30th of the following year, and subsequent bond terms are July 1-June 30. Jet will send you a renewal notice via mail and email. You will need to confirm financial information before you can receive your renewal quote. After you have completed your renewal payment, Jet will send a continuation certificate directly to the Department.
You cannot cancel your bond prior to the June 30th expiration date.
The purpose of this bond is to protect against damages from the fabricator’s failure to honor the 5-year color and adhesion warranties on painted galvanized steel products (mast arms, monotube assemblies, strain poles, and conventional light poles) or aluminum products (light poles, posts, and pedestals). Claims can be filed during the bond term or within the 5-year warranty period.
If a claim is filed, Jet will investigate the accusation to verify whether it is valid and if it is covered by the bond. If the claim holds up, Jet will have to pay the claim, but the fabricator is still responsible for paying Jet back in the amount of the claim payout.
