The Broward County Water and Wastewater Engineering Division requires contractors to secure a Utility Connection Bond before obtaining a permit for construction on water, wastewater, or reclaimed water facilities.
According to the Division, the Utility Connection Bond limit must be equal to the contractor's contract price.
At Jet, the cost of a Utility Connection Bond is a small percentage of the bond limit and is based on a soft credit check of the contractor. In some cases, a review of the applicant’s business financials is needed to determine an approved rate, but this step only applies to limits over $50k.
If you are seeking up to a $10,000 bond amount, prices will start at $100 for a one-year bond term. Additional bond limits and Jet’s preferred credit tier rates can be found in the price chart below.
Bond Limit | Cost |
---|---|
Up to $10,000 | $100 |
$25,000 | $250 |
$50,000 | $500 |
$80,000 | $800 |
A copy of the signed and sealed Utility Connection Bond form, along with your completed permit application, can either be submitted to the Water and Wastewater Engineering Division via Broward County’s ePermits Portal or by mail to the following address:
Broward County
Water and Wastewater Engineering Division
2555 West Copans Road
Pompano Beach, FL 33069
Further details on the permit process can be found on the Utility Connection Permit webpage.
According to the Broward County, FL Municode, as well as the Utility Connection Bond form, the contractor is responsible for any maintenance work needed for one year following the execution of the water, wastewater, or reclaimed water facility project. If Water and Wastewater Engineering Division finds that defective materials or equipment were used that has resulted in poor workmanship, the contractor must repair or replace the construction that was done within 30 days of the maintenance request.
In cases where the contractor does not uphold the warranty contract, the Division may file a claim against the Utility Connection Bond. Funds from the bond will be used to cover any financial losses incurred by the Division as well as the cost of fixing any damages caused by the contractor.
The Utility Connection Permit Bond is not up for cancellation and must remain active for the entire duration of the warranty period. Once this mandatory timeline has ended, the Division will release the bond’s liability and Jet will officially terminate your bond.
