Alabama residents, firms, and corporations that are engaged in the business of selling hunting and fishing equipment meet the qualifications to become a special agent. Licenses can be requested by way of writing to the local probate judge or license commissioner. If approved, the applicant must provide the Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond to receive their license from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources requires the Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond (formally known as the Alabama Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Indemnity Bond) to act as a fiscal guarantee if the special agent fails to transfer all collected license funds to the DCNR. Even if the special agent decides to violate the terms of their license and pocket the money, the DCNR will still be paid for all issued hunting and fishing licenses by way of the bond.
Jet’s online application for the Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond is quick and easy! Just go through the guided steps to input general business information needed for your bond. You can cancel your bond with Jet at any time! Just email us at [email protected] with a cancellation request and we will notify the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources of your bond termination, which will keep your bond on file for another 30 days. Once the bond is officially cancelled, Jet will calculate the remaining time left on the bond into a refund.
If you are part of Jet’s monthly payment program, your payments will continue until the cancellation of the bond is complete. A refund is not applicable, as you are only charged while the bond is active.
The Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond must be kept active during the course of the license issued by the DCNR. The license has an expiration date of August 31st, and renewal of the license and bond must be completed before license expires. If you are paying for the bond monthly, you don’t need to worry about renewing the bond! It will remain active as long as payments are processed from your preferred account.
For bonds that are paid by the year, Jet will send out a notice of renewal ahead of time through mail and email. Whether you choose to renew online or through mail, you will need just a minute to fill out the notice and complete payment for your new bond term.
Alabama special agents are required to follow all rules and regulations of their license as indicated in the Alabama Legislature Title 9, Chapter 11, Article 2. Failure to do so may result in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to revoke the special agent’s license, inflict fees, or even pursue a claim on the Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond.
Special agents are obligated to submit an accurate record of licenses issued in the previous month, the funds collected for such licenses, and a copy of each license sold to their local probate judge or license commissioner by the 5th of each month. A claim will typically only be filed on the special agent’s bond if they fail to appropriately collect and transfer all license funds due to the DCNR.
The probate judge or license commissioner in charge of the special agent will immediately notify the licensee of any violations found along with a chance to resolve the issue by promptly paying all fees due. If the special agent is unable to or refuses to do so, the DCNR will then be notified and a bond claim may be filed against the Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond.
Once you have received a bond claim notification from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, immediately contact Jet with all available information. A member of the Jet team will proceed with a review of the information provided and investigate the claim details.
If the claim is justified, Jet Insurance Company is legally obligated by the terms of the Hunting and Fishing Special Agent Bond to make payment up to the $1,000 limit. You are still deemed responsible for your actions and must reimburse Jet in the amount of the payout. Failure to do so may result in future difficulties obtaining a surety bond in Alabama.
