Jet is the only surety company to offer a monthly payment plan for the Homewood Contractor Bond.
Applying for the bond is quick; provide us with some basic information, make payment, and you will receive a copy of your bond and receipt within minutes.
Jet can take care of filing the bond to the City of Homewood for you, but if you prefer to file the original bond yourself, you can select that option when providing payment. The bond is to be filed at the following address:
City of Homewood
City Clerk
2850 19th St South
Homewood, AL 35209
The bond must be in place for the duration of the license. If you paid in full up front, Jet will send a notice via email and mail upon renewal. As long as payment is made prior to the bond’s expiration, your bond will remain active. If you are paying monthly, there is no renewal process! The bond will stay active with each payment Jet receives from your preferred account until cancellation is requested.
If you need to cancel, just email us at [email protected]! We must provide the City with a 30-day written notice. During those 30 days, the bond remains active and you are responsible for payment. If you pay monthly, the payments will end after the 30-day period is up. If you paid annually or for multiple years, Jet will calculate any time left on the bond, with the additional 30 days in mind, to see if there is a partial refund available to you.
Electricians, plumbers, gasfitters, and paving/excavation contractors should follow contractual obligations and the Homewood, Alabama Code of Ordinances to avoid bond claims. Claims come from a contractor’s failure to uphold their duties, such as abandoning a site prior to a job’s completion. Paving and excavation contractors should follow Section 18-52 and electricians and plumbers/gasfitters should follow Chapter 6 of the Code of Ordinances.
The City, or any affected person, may bring suit against the contractor for violation of the Code. Penalties will often be imposed prior to a bond payout, so it is best to work with the City to resolve any issues before your license is revoked or you get a claim on your bond.
When a claim reaches Jet, we review all details prior to paying the claimant. However, if a claim is valid, we must remit payment in the amount of the claim up to the full bond limit. Because you are liable for your actions, you must pay Jet back to avoid any future complications getting a license and bond.
