Alabama Cosmetology School Bond

Alabama Cosmetology School Performance Bond

The Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering requires a $50,000 Cosmetology School Performance Bond for cosmetology schools to receive their license. The bond guarantees that cosmetology students will not be lured into paying for an education that they do not receive because the school has closed.

Jet cuts out the middleman from the bonding process just like dead ends, making the whole process shorter, smoother, and healthier.

Why Is the Cosmetology School Bond Required?

The Board of Cosmetology and Barbering exists to enforce regulations that protect the public from malpractice in the cosmetology and barbering industry — including schools for cosmetology, esthetics, barbering, waxing, manicures, and natural hair styling. The Cosmetology School Bond provides reassurance to the Board that you, the cosmetology school, will return any unearned tuition to your students if the school closes, making sure you are performing according to the Code of Alabama 1975 and not cheating people out of their money.

Can Jet File the Cosmetology School Bond for Me?

Yes! After your purchase, Jet will prepare the Cosmetology School Bond and send it directly to the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. If, for some reason, you need to file the bond yourself, you can choose that option during checkout and provide a mailing address.

Once you have the original bond (and any other paperwork) ready, you must mail it to:

Montgomery, AL 36130-1750

Can I Cancel My Cosmetology School Bond and Get a Refund?

Yes! With Jet, if you purchased your bond in an annual or multi-year term, you can receive a refund for cancelling your Cosmetology School Bond before it is due for renewal. Once you have sent a written request to Jet (email is fine; send it to [email protected]), our team will notify the Board of Cosmetology and Barbering of the cancellation and they will begin the 60-day cancellation period. Any time left on the bond after the cancellation period has ended will be calculated into your refund.

With monthly payments, you will still be charged during the 60-day cancellation period. Once the cancellation period is complete, payments will be stopped.

How Do I Renew the Cosmetology School Bond in Alabama?

When it is time to renew your Cosmetology School Bond, Jet will send a notice through mail and email ahead of your renewal date. Once you make payment (online or by mail), your bond will keep going for the new term!

Monthly payments are even easier — if you keep making payments, your bond will stay in effect until cancellation is requested.

How Does a Cosmetology School Avoid Bond Claims?

The best way to understand how to avoid claims on your Cosmetology School Bond is to know what causes them in the first place. In the Code of Alabama Section 34-7B-26, it clearly states that the bond is used to protect students when the cosmetology school closes. Additional clarification is found on the bond form itself, indicating that any unearned tuition should be returned to students following closure. So, as long as you refund unearned tuition to students when you close the cosmetology school before the education has been completed, there is no viable reason for you to receive claims.

If you receive any complaints regarding the lack of refund, it is in your best interest to address those right away and make sure that you provide the refund. An unresolved complaint may lead to a claim on the bond, and if it is valid, you will still end up paying for the refund and potentially additional fees.

What Happens if I Get a Cosmetology School Bond Claim?

If you receive a claim against your Cosmetology School Bond, Jet will look into it and search for the truth. If you have any evidence to defend yourself, such as proof of refund, you should submit it to Jet.

If the claim proves to be valid, Jet is obligated to reimburse the students for their tuition. Any payout from the bond is an extension of your own credit and you are responsible for reimbursing Jet.
